JAMSHEDPUR: A day after the announcement of the state assembly election results, extremist activities resurfaced in West Singhbhum district as suspected members of the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) killed two villagers in Giru village under the Gudri police station limits on Sunday evening.
Initial police investigation revealed that the deceased were PLFI members and the murders stemmed from a dispute over distribution of extorted money between rival groups.
"Our preliminary investigation confirms that the two victims were associated with PLFI and the killings resulted from a monetary dispute," SP Ashutosh Shekhar said.
The victims, aged between 24 and 30 years, were from Giru village and Khunti district, police said.
The incident occurred at a sand ghat where the victims were allegedly involved in illegal sand mining. According to reports, around ten armed attackers stormed the site and physically assaulted the duo before killing them with axes.
SP Shekhar said police are investigating PLFI's possible involvement in illegal sand mining operations in the area. The bodies have been sent to Chakradharpur sadar hospital for post-mortem examination while police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators.
